Project Quilting Season 8, Challenge 5

The theme for this challenge is "Well Dressed Man". After 4 or 5 starts, this is where I landed. My guy accessorizes with guitars! (He has quite a collection.) Of course his assistant was right in there. I ran out of time to add in the details I wanted, but all in all, I'm pleased with how it turned out.

This is the photo I worked from:

The voting is open here until Friday night for your 8 favorites.

In working on the Block of the Month Blazing Star quilt from Craftsy, it appears that there are errors in some templates. Since it's a free pattern, there is not much support for corrections, so I drafted my own fix.

This is from the instructions. See the 90 degree angle at the fat part of the kite shape where it meets the square?

Clearly not 90 degrees.

My draft with the additional tall side triangle. I think it will work!

I really do think this is a beautiful quilt and the instructor does a super job on the video. Hopefully this is the only error.

Happy weekend!

Catching Up

Project Quilting Challenge #2: Carolina Lily

Challenge #3: Texture

Challenge #4: The Brighter the better (my personal favorite)
Miss Helen Bright Eyes.

My inspiration:

A different perspective of the quilting:

I've had a couple of requests for information on the process, so that's in the works, even though I'm a novice.
Looking back at the Project quilts, I'm wondering if orange is my new blue.
And a Bear Paw wall hanging.

I also have a Craftsy Block of the Month quilt in progress, but only two blocks are finished. I ordered the kit and am very pleased with the quality of the fabric.

I never post photos of us, but here we are with our favorite kid. Kudos to daughter Amber ( the kid's mom) for the photo shoot she talked us into at Thanksgiving. I don't know how she managed this shot, because the little dude wasn't in favor of this exercise.

Thanks for making it to the end!

Project Quilting Season 8

Happy New Year! Project Quilting Season 8 was launched January 1 with the challenge theme "8 is Great".  Here's my interpretation.

I've been fairly obsessed with foundation paper piecing lately, so I drafted some simple blocks with 8 points or pieces. The exception is the star which I wonky pieced. The dots and funky shape are just for fun! This piece measures 20 x 17 inches. I got some good free motion quilting practice in, too. All the entries can be found at Persimon Dreams. I'm also supposed to add that I'm in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

I've only had a couple of other finishes since May. This is a quilt I made for our grandson. All the blocks are paper pieced and took me forever! But, anything for the little man.

Pattern credits: Whims and Fancies, Schenley P, Bubble Stitch, Forest Quilting and ProtoQuilt. The link to the rabbit pattern is no longer active.

This quilt was made for my niece Shelly's wedding. I found the tutorial at Tamarack Shack and used some of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics I'd been hoarding.

This block on the back of the quilt was made by my mom (my niece's grandmother). In the center of the flower I appliqued a circle from dad's overalls. Shelly and her grandma were pretty close, so I was happy to add that little extra hug.

I have one more project in the works and here's a little peak of that one. Be careful, Helen! Don't hurt yourself playing with that fly. #lazycat

Here's hoping for a year of health, happiness and maybe some more frequent blogging!
