Project Quilting Challenge 5, Through the Eyes of a Child

The inspiration for this week's challenge is children's art.  I wasn't able to find any artwork from my daughters' days in school and this little man isn't quite ready for a paintbrush. (But, he has the hat!)

I can't stand it!

I could have borrowed an image from elsewhere, but that didn't seem quite right. So, I thought about my own experience with art 50 odd years ago and could only come up with one memory...the bean rooster.  You know the one.

Something like this...no image credit available.

Someone's dad (quite possibly my own) cut out plywood rooster shapes and we were put to the task of embellishing them with a variety of beans. My 10 year old self hated every single minute of it.

Anyway, this is my little quilty rendition of the bean rooster. It's raw edge applique adhered with MistyFuse and stitched with monofiliment thread. Totally more fun than the original!

12 x 11 inches on funky IKEA fabric!

Go to Persimon Dreams to see all the creative entries and to vote. (For me, if you want...wink, wink!) I'm also linking up to Whoop Whoop Fridays at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Show Off Saturday at Sew Can She. Thanks to both for supplying the link-up!
